Summer in Verbier
Summer activities at The Lodge
Everyone knows that Verbier is a fantastic resort in Winter, but did you know about all the great things to do in summer? There's golf, mountain biking, hiking, yoga, rock climbing, tennis, paragliding, and mountain scooters... we could go on!
Mountain Biking
Verbier is a premier destination for cycling and mountain biking in the Swiss Alps, playing host to iconic events such as the Grand Raid Cristalp, stages of the Tour de Suisse, and the Swiss downhill championships. With hundreds of kilometres of scenic cycling and mountain biking trails, the region caters to all levels, from leisurely road cycling through alpine valleys to technical mountain bike routes and adrenaline-filled downhill descents.
For those chasing the thrill without the climb, the lift system runs from early July to mid-September, providing effortless access to high-altitude trails and sweeping downhill runs. Whether you’re a dedicated cyclist or a family looking for an active day in the mountains, Verbier offers the perfect blend of adventure, scenery, and fresh alpine air. Bike hire can be arranged easily with the team.
Hiking
Nothing feels more Swiss than a mountain hike in the Swiss Alps, and in Verbier, there’s a trail for every mood, pace, and ability.
One of the most beautiful and accessible routes is the historic Bisse, a scenic mountain waterway once used to carry glacial water from Mont Fort to Levron. Today, it’s a gently maintained walking path that’s largely flat and perfect for an easy alpine stroll. Depending on where you start, it can be a relaxed 45-minute wander or a leisurely 4-hour hike, with plenty of options in between.
For a well-earned pause, stop at one of the mountain restaurants along the way for a refreshing drink or a glass of wine with a view. If you’re after more adventure, Verbier also offers everything from 3-hour hikes with a wild swim in a mountain lake to full-day, high-altitude challenges. Whether you want a gentle wander or a serious alpine workout, the team can map out the perfect route, or arrange a guide to lead the way.
Rock Climbing
The Bagnes Valley is a fantastic destination for rock climbing in the Swiss Alps, offering a wide variety of climbing areas suited to both beginners and experienced climbers. Highlights include Pierre Avoi, La Barme, Madzeria near Mauvoisin, Sembrancher, and La Fouly, each offering unique routes, stunning alpine scenery, and rewarding climbs for all abilities.
Whether you’re trying climbing for the first time or looking to push your limits, the team at The Lodge will be happy to arrange guided climbing excursions and unforgettable days on the rock.
Paragliding
Why not take to the skies and discover Verbier from a whole new perspective? Soar above the Swiss Alps on a breathtaking tandem paragliding flight, sit back, and take in the panoramic mountain views as you glide effortlessly through the air.
For those looking for a deeper thrill, it’s also possible to take lessons and work towards flying solo. Whether you’re after a one-time adventure or something more ambitious, the team at The Lodge can arrange every detail of your paragliding experience for an unforgettable moment in the sky.
Food and wine experiences
Just below Verbier in the Rhône Valley, sun-drenched vineyards produce some of Switzerland’s most intriguing wines, still very much a well-kept secret beyond the country’s borders. A visit to local vineyards offers a relaxed and scenic day out, with guided tastings, cellar tours, and the chance to meet passionate winemakers who proudly share their craft.
Summer in Verbier is also a dream for food lovers, with a vibrant mix of culinary experiences across the region. From open-air mountain lunches and gourmet picnics in wildflower meadows to seasonal food events and tasting menus celebrating local Swiss produce, every day offers something delicious to discover in the Alps.
Golf in Verbier
Golf in Verbier is anything but ordinary: think fairways framed by towering peaks, crisp alpine air, and some of the most spectacular views in the Swiss Alps. Just moments from the resort, the 18-hole Verbier golf course sits at altitude, offering a unique and refreshing twist on a classic game, where every swing comes with a mountain backdrop.
Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just playing for the scenery, this is a relaxed and enjoyable way to spend a summer’s day in Verbier. The laid-back atmosphere, pristine surroundings, and sweeping views make it as much about the experience as the scorecard. After your round, unwind and soak up the setting. The Lodge team can also take care of tee times and arrangements for a seamless day on the course.

Back at The Lodge, everything is taken care of, from delicious meals and snacks to cosy spaces for downtime after busy days outdoors. In Verbier, summer family holidays are all about fun, freedom, and unforgettable shared moments.

In Verbier
Mountain scooters - A fleet of ‘Arapaho’ mountain Scooters is kept by Télé-Verbier, the lift operators, and you can do a lap from the top of Ruinettes down to Médran, which is a short walk from The Lodge. The run takes 20 minutes on average.
Tennis - Whether you’re looking for group or individual lessons at one of Verbier's tennis courts, our tennis coach can prepare a tennis programme for any skill level, and we will have racquets and balls to lend to guests.
Yoga - Where better to relax and heal than the fresh mountain air? There are several mountain top locations for yoga practice, and classes can be held outdoors or in The Lodge. A great combination is a gentle hike with a session of yoga up on the mountain.
Excursions and Day Trips
For families or adventurous couples who are in the region for a longer stay, we would recommend hiring a car at Geneva airport and making the most of the Valais area. Driving in Switzerland is very easy, and the freeways are very well-maintained, with little traffic. Having your own car allows you the freedom to experience the following days away from the village.
Wine tasting - There are many vineyards very near Verbier, and Swiss wine is a well-kept and closely guarded secret. We can either organise a tasting at The Lodge or a trip to the wineries down the valley. Why not take a day out to learn about how the wine is made and enjoy a tasting or two?
Mauvoisin Dam - At the very end of the Val de Bagnes sits an amazing lake and dam wall. The wall itself is an impressive 250m high, and you can walk the perimeter of the lake, which is around a 3-hour trip. Or you can take a picnic and enjoy the views from the top of the wall. The drive there and back takes around an hour, and you pass through some amazingly picturesque villages and river scenes.
Italy or Chamonix Day Trips - We have several maps and personal favourite spots in Chamonix, France or Aosta, Italy. Whether it’s the old town, small delicatessens and history of Aosta, or the Mont Blanc, rock climbing and Aiguilles de Midi in Chamonix, each is just an hour’s drive away over the respective borders, and is a great way to spend a day exploring another town and country. Don’t forget your passport and Euros.
Monastery at Grand St Bernard - On the way to Italy, at the top of the Col de Grand St Bernard, sits a monastery built by the monks to shelter weary travellers. The dogs of the same name are also bred here, and in season, which is typically June to September, the puppies are out and about. You can take a tour of the dog enclosures and the monastery.
Underground Cave - Sierre, just outside Sion, is home to Europe’s biggest underground lake. You board a boat, and the guide points out the main features of the cave and its discovery in the 1940s. It is over 300m long and 20 wide, and the tour lasts around half an hour.
Adventure Park - Ropes, swings, tree ladders and leaps of faith! Built in the forests just outside Sion, this incredibly laid out Adventure Park is not just for kids.

Escape the heat: Why summer in the mountains is the perfect alternative getaway
This summer, consider trading your flip-flops for hiking boots and your beach towel for a mountain spa robe. Here’s why the mountains - and three standout Virgin Limited Edition alpine and hillside hideaways - make the perfect alternative for your luxury summer holiday.
Cool-cations: The best luxury summer escapes to beat the heat
Summer is, without question, one of life's great pleasures. Long golden evenings, the hum of cicadas, cold drinks on warm terraces, we’re not here to argue with any of that. But there's something wonderfully subversive about the traveller who looks at the summer calendar and thinks: what if I went somewhere cooler instead? Not because they're running from the sun, but because they've discovered something the beach crowd hasn't quite cottoned on to yet.
