Dining at Mont Rochelle

There are two restaurants at Mont Rochelle. The Country Kitchen which joins up to our wine cellar, is an ideal place for a light lunch as well as wine tasting. Or if you're after something a little more formal, MIKO is our flagship restaurant boasting a prime location, with impeccable 180-degree views over the Franschhoek valley and surrounding vineyards and mountains. Start the evening off with a refreshing cocktail from our bar and find a comfy space on the terrace to watch the sun set.

MIKO

MIKO’s cuisine is best described as a taster to South African favourites with each of the seasonal dishes telling a story, using the freshest most local ingredients, which pair beautifully with our award-winning wine list. With its covered terrace, guests have the option of dining alfresco all year round.

A late afternoon cocktail on the terrace is the perfect way to relax, unwind and enjoy the stunning sunset whilst MIKO’s roaring fireplace in winter is perfect for pairing our MIKO Syrah with one of our seasonal warmer dishes.

Showcasing the best that Franschhoek has to offer, whatever the reason and whatever the season, be it for breakfast with the family, a celebratory lunch, a spot of lawn games and sundowners or a romantic dinner for two.

Take a seat for one of the most important meals of the day - breakfast is available for both our guests and non-resident guests. Dinner menu

Dine at MIKO from our dinner menu and sample an array of fresh, seasonal dishes that showcase the produce in our area (as well as our chefs talents). From a beautifully prepared smoked Springbok and beetroot carpaccio to a mouth-watering green Asparagus and rainbow Carrot salad , and that's just for starters, to more hearty mains of salted and herbed Kudu steak or a simply grilled and sustainably caught fillet of fish, topped off with a delectable and a little naughty dark chocolate fondant! Terrace & lunch menu

Our bar & lunch menu reflects the seasons. Snack on one of the lighter salad options such as the fresh Franschhoek Smoked Trout salad or share a platter for two. A Taste of MIKO

Kids menu

For our Little Corkers (that's kids under 12) we have created menus with them in mind, but they're welcome to choose from our main menus if they'd prefer. Kick start the day with some simple scrambled eggs or a yummy peanut butter sandwich. View the breakfast menu here.

Wines

As well as showcasing our award-winning wines of the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties (amongst a few others), which are grown, pressed and bottled in our vineyard here at Mont Rochelle, we also have an extensive wine list to choose from. The Country Kitchen & Picnics

The Country Kitchen is Mont Rochelle's informal restaurant located just a short walk or a quick drive from the main hotel building and adjacent to our wine cellar. If you’re visiting the Country Kitchen for lunch or if you’re off to the wine cellar, just let us know and we can help with directions.

Country Kitchen Menu

The lunch menu at the Country Kitchen is perfect for a light-bite. From deep fried camembert to hand cut venison carpaccio – and that’s just for starters! Tuck into our classic Country Kitchen burger served with fries, or for a healthier take why not sample our new ‘Impossible burger’ made completely vegan and completely delicious. What are the dining options at Mont Rochelle?

All our room rates include breakfast which is served in our main restaurant, Miko. Miko is one of two restaurants at Mont Rochelle and is the setting for some fantastic gourmet meals including for those special occasions. Start the evening off with a refreshing cocktail from our bar and find a comfy space on the terrace to watch the sunset. The Country Kitchen joins up to our wine cellar-it’s an ideal place for a light lunch in the sunshine or a relaxed dinner. Our restaurant, Miko, serves lunch until 6pm and dinner in the evening. The Country Kitchen serves dinner Friday to Sunday only from 7pm until 9pm. During the week The Country Kitchen is open from 10am until 6pm serving lunch and light bites. Do you cater for special diets?

Our menus are one of the highlights of your stay, but we understand that some people have special requirements and personal favourites too. Let us know in advance, and we’ll do our best to make sure we have exactly what you need.

What if I want to have lunch or dinner in Franschhoek?

There is a wide range of restaurants in the area so please ask a member of our team for a recommendation. We can reserve a table for you and organise taxis if you don’t have a car and would like to sample some more of the region’s wines

What’s on the menu?

At Mont Rochelle the food served is a blend of international dishes with a healthy nod to the varied nature of South Africa cuisine, paired naturally with some superb local vintages. The wrap-around views of the Franschhoek valley do steal the show somewhat, but you can be sure our chefs have been focusing on dishes made with fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Sustainability:

Mont Rochelle’s chefs use vegetables from local farmers and all fish and shellfish are sourced from local waters. We strive to ensure that as much of our food as possible is locally sourced in South Africa to ensure maximum economic benefit to the people and minimal transport and ‘food miles’. The lamb and springbok come from the Karoo and surrounding regions, and trout is sourced from the local Franschhoek valley. The on-site herb garden provides parsley, thyme and rosemary for the kitchens. Olives and fruits (including figs, crabapples, pomegranate and kumquat) are all sourced from local trees surrounding Mont Rochelle.
