Mont Rochelle is perfect for families, offering endless fun for our "Little Corkers." There’s no set programme - activities are available on request, so you can tailor the experience to your family’s needs. From  lawn games to movie nights, there’s plenty we can organise to keep the little ones entertained.

For an added adventure, explore the Franschhoek Valley on a scooter tour with one of our trusted local partners through scenic wine farms or visit a local wildlife sanctuary for an unforgettable experience.

A 20-minute walk from Mont Rochelle brings you to the heart of Franschhoek, a town brimming with boutique shops, art galleries, patisseries, and world-class restaurants. Dive into history at the Huguenot Memorial Museum, browse the lively Saturday market under ancient oak trees, or rent a bike to explore scenic routes at your own pace. If you’re carrying a few too many shopping bags, our complimentary transfers make getting back easy.

For adventure seekers, Franschhoek offers everything from horseback rides through breathtaking landscapes to thrilling Scootours down mountain trails. Visit the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve for incredible hikes, take to the skies with a hot air balloon or helicopter ride, or step back in time at the Franschhoek Motor Museum. Animal lovers can enjoy up-close encounters at Giraffe House and Drakenstein Lion Park, while history buffs won’t want to miss the iconic Groot Drakenstein Prison, where Nelson Mandela took his first steps to freedom.

Activities at Mont Rochelle

Get Active

Gym - For the active types, our gym is available every day, with two treadmills, bikes, an adjustable bench and suspension training pack, dual adjustable pulley and a multipower machine, a set of free weights and a body ball.

Biking* - There are some wonderful routes that make it easy to explore the surrounding area on a bike. We can arrange bike rental with a local company. Just let us know, and we can book these for you.

Tennis - It’s game, set, and match to our floodlit astro turf tennis court when it comes to scenic places to play tennis. As well as the view, racquets and balls are provided, and it comes complete with a cabana, kitchen and bathroom.

Lawn Games - There are plenty of lawn games that you can play whilst taking in the stunning views. Anyone for chess?

Golf - South Africa is known for the high standard of its many golf courses. The hotel can arrange tee-off times for you. Booking is vital during the summer season in order to avoid disappointment.

Hiking - Enjoy a hike through the hills, valleys and vineyards surrounding the hotel, as well as in local nature reserves. The Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve on the opposite side of the valley offers superb views of the wine valley, and on a clear day, you can even see Table Mountain and the ocean! The walks vary in length from 3 to 8 hours and are of moderate intensity. You will need to acquire a 1-day permit that costs R50 per person and a map that costs R20. You are welcome to take walks through our farm, and our only request is that you stay on the walkways to preserve the fragile vines that produce our splendid wines.

Relax

Pool - Take a dip and relax in the main outdoor heated swimming pool at Mont Rochelle - there are some fantastic views of the Franschhoek mountains. Bar service and fresh towels are available around the pool.

Spa - What could be more relaxing than a spa treatment during your stay? Mont Rochelle has two dedicated spa treatment rooms as well as a Hammam. We use the eco-friendly Africology ‘Authentic’ range of products, which are made from 100% essential oils and natural plant extracts. Resident guests are welcome to make use of the Hammam at their leisure as long as it’s not in use for a scheduled treatment. taking in the stunning views. 

Wine o'clock

Private Wine Tasting - A private wine tasting at Mont Rochelle isn’t just a special event; it’s a regular occurrence. We can set up an exclusive tasting just for you and up to seven of your loved ones, surrounded by the best vintages in our wine cellar.
Availability: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays & Sundays
Time: 11am or 5pm

Complimentary Wine Tasting - A complimentary wine tasting at Mont Rochelle is the perfect way to experience our finest vintages. Tastings take place in a relaxed group setting and can be organised at The Country Kitchen, in our bar, or within our dedicated wine tasting room for the ultimate experience.

Time: Between 10am and 6pm

Wine Maker's Dinner - Indulge in a truly unforgettable evening with our Winemaker’s Dinner, hosted by our esteemed winemaker, Michael Langenhoven. Enjoy an exclusive cellar tour followed by a delectable five-course pairing dinner at The Country Kitchen.

Full Day Wine Tour - Embark on a bespoke wine adventure with our exclusive full-day wine tour guided by our private tour guide at Mont Rochelle. Indulge in a tailor-made experience crafted around your wine preferences. Explore renowned wine regions, including Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Wellington, with water provided in the vehicle and stand tasting fees covered.

Sundowners & Live Music - On the last Friday of every month, there will be live music from a lineup of exciting local artists. From 5-7pm, tuck into delectable locally sourced dishes paired with fine wines from our winery whilst enjoying great music.

Franschhoek Wine Tram - A great way to discover the Franschhoek Valley is by the famous wine tram! This is a hop-on, hop-off service offering picturesque vineyards, beautiful scenery, fine wines, and world-class cuisine as you travel. Her,e guests will have the chance to visit some of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished wine estates, travelling on an open-air tram. Mont Rochelle is a stop on one of the Wine Tram routes, so guests can book the other route to sample more of the area’s vineyards.

Vineyard & Wine Cellar Tour - Immerse yourself in the world of winemaking with our complimentary vineyard and wine cellar tour. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover the artistry behind our exceptional wines.

Walk into Franschhoek - Take a 15-20 minute walk from the property and go exploring in Franschhoek, a traditional small town known for its beauty. It has lots to do and see, including interior design boutiques, craft shops, patisseries, lovely restaurants, art galleries and museums. If you are laden down with shopping, we run a complimentary transfer service between Mont Rochelle and Franschhoek at set times of the day for lunchtime and evening visits. Outside of these times, transfers and pick-ups will be charged additionally.

Huguenot Memorial Museum - Embark on a fascinating journey through the Huguenot Memorial Museum, where the vibrant tale of South Africa’s French Huguenots comes alive amidst the whirlwind of a global refugee adventure. Franschhoek Cycles - Pedal your way to adventure with this fantastic bicycle shop right in the heart of Franschhoek. Whether you’re up for exploring on an e-bike or a traditional bicycle, they’ve got you covered. Don’t forget your helmet, and if you’re feeling adventurous, why not join one of their guided tours?

Historical Tour - Dive into the rich tapestry of Franschhoek’s past with a captivating historical tour. Venture beyond the streets to explore the scenic Berg River area, guided by a knowledgeable expert. Choose between a leisurely mountain bike ride or the ease of an E-Bike, with helmets and refreshing water provided for up to two hours of exploration.

Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve - Just a friendly reminder that this gem isn’t part of our estate, but it’s well worth the visit. Explore the wonders of the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve, boasting ten diverse hiking trails suitable for all skill levels. Whether you’re seeking a leisurely stroll or an all-day adventure, there’s a trail waiting to be discovered amidst this natural paradise.

Paradise Stables - Gallop through the picturesque landscapes of the Western Cape atop majestic Arabian horses, guided by the experienced Pieter Hugo. With three unique riding options to suit every adventurer, it’s an equestrian paradise waiting to be explored.

Scootours - Experience an adrenaline-fueled adventure as you zip through the breathtaking mountains and lush wine farms surrounding the Franschhoek Valley. It’s an exhilarating and family-friendly way to soak in the beauty of the region like never before.

Franschhoek Motor Museum - Rev your engines and take a trip down memory lane at a spectacular museum, home to over 220 vintage vehicles. Step into the world of motoring history and immerse yourself in over a century’s worth of automotive evolution. It’s a special opportunity for enthusiasts of all ages.

The Giraffe House Wildlife Awareness Centre - Get ready for an up-close encounter with the wonders of African wildlife. Giraffe House are dedicated to creating a space where visitors can immerse themselves in the great outdoors while discovering the uniqueness of our animal friends.

Groot Frakenstein Prison - Formerly Victor Verster Prison, holds a significant place on the map, notably as the final site of NelsonMandela’s incarceration. It was through these very gates that Mandela took his historic walk to freedom in 1990, marking a momentous chapter in South Africa’s history.
