Keeping You Safe
18th January 2021
With the UK now in the midst of lockdown 3.0, many parents face the daily juggling act of working from home alongside home schooling, all whilst providing fun and engaging activities for kids too. The Virgin Limited Edition collection of properties located around the world naturally has an array of cultures and activities that form an incredible part of education outside of the classroom and following on from the success of its “Sofa Safaris”, the properties have come together to create a unique series of activities specifically tailored for children. Planned to ease some of the pressure of formal academic exercises, the new virtual kids series will give an exciting taste of the rest of the world and its cultures while offering a brief respite for parents with an educational and fun activity to break up the day.
Vanessa Neal, Group Sales and Marketing Director for Virgin Limited Edition explained “We all understand that home schooling is no easy task, but while it’s so important for children to continue to follow the curriculum, it’s just as important for them to understand the world around us and have a little fun along the way.
“There is much research to suggest that if children are engaged, stimulated, active and busy with a variety of activities then these contribute to their development as much as formal study does. In fact, variety has the added benefit of ensuring youngsters stay motivated and therefore we are incredibly excited to bring to life some of the activities from our incredible properties around the world – all with something fun, but educational for children to enjoy amid these difficult and challenging times.”
From learning how to jump like a Maasai Warrior at Mahali Mzuri in Kenya and finding out the secrets of how to make Berber Bread at Kasbah Tamadot in Morocco, to Lemur Yoga on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands, a special Sofa Safari at Ulusaba Private Game Reserve in South Africa and finally a sensory drinks tasting at Mont Rochelle. Families will be taken on a journey around the world, learning about different cultures and traditions in a fun and engaging way.
The series will start on Thursday 28th January and will run every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon until the 11th February, taking place on Instagram @VirginLimitedEdition. The full series dates are as follows:
Thursday 28th January 3PM GMT
Ulusaba Private Game Reserve is set in the heart of the South African Bush and will take kids on an exciting game journey, teaching them all about the incredible African wildlife that can be spotted as well as all the ways that we work to protect the environment through conservation, preserving it for future generations. Kids will also have the chance to learn vital tracking skills and have a guess at real life animal footprints.
Tuesday 2nd February 2PM GMT
Kasbah Tamadot is nestled in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains and is steeped in traditions from the local Berber community. Led by Kasbah Tamadot’s Head Chef, kids will be able to get their hands messy as they are taught how to make and cook traditional Berber Bread.
Thursday 4th February 2PM GMT
Necker Island is home to exotic and endangered wildlife, including lemurs and flamingos. Following an introduction to Necker Island’s Wildlife and Conservation Manager and some of its resident Lemurs of course, Yoga teacher, Katie will get the kids moving, seeing who can move like a Lemur with Lemur Yoga.
Tuesday 9th February 2PM GMT
Mont Rochelle Hotel and Vineyard is set in the foodie capital of South Africa. Whilst famed for its wine tasting, that’s something we’ll keep just for the parents! Head Wine Maker Dustin Osbourne has created a special tasting just for kids using soft drinks and food colouring. This immersive, sensory experience will tickle their taste buds, while showing how much our eyes can influence what we think we taste.
Thursday 11th February 2PM GMT
Mahali Mzuri will take kids on a virtual visit to the local Maasai Village where they will be able to watch a traditional Maasai dance, will see how the villagers make fire and will be given a tour of the Maasai manyatta, house and beadworks by the Maasai women. To round of their visit to Kenya kids will be invited to join in some fitness as they learn how to jump like a Maasai!
