Procurement & Sustainability Chef - Necker Island

Sir Richard Branson's private island paradise, and home, Necker Island, in the British Virgin Islands is unquestionably the most idyllic place in the Caribbean. At 74 acres, Necker sits in turquoise waters surrounded by coral reefs and fringed with white sandy beaches. The island can be hired exclusively for up to 30 people and is the perfect destination for special occasions and events! It can also be shared with others ‘house-party’ style during Celebration Weeks, which are held several times each year, when guests can book individual rooms. Accommodation comes in the form of 11 rooms in the Great House and 4 individual Bali Houses dotted around the island. The property can also be rented for large events and weddings of over 200 people.

The style of Necker is “barefoot luxury”, but the feeling we aim to create for our guests when they arrive on island is of coming home. Unless our guests feel completely at ease from the moment they step onto the island we haven’t done our jobs properly.

The island provides extensive water sports activities as well as tennis courts with a resident coach, gym and outstanding spa treatments. There’s also a wonderful array of rare wildlife on the island, which we are helping to flourish!

If that wasn’t enough Virgin Limited Edition also operates on Moskito Island, another beautiful island where Sir Richard Branson has a home, along with another number of other homeowners. It’s just two miles South of Necker Island and staff may find themselves working closely with the Moskito Island team.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE IN YOUR BRIEFCASE
Qualifications / Experience

  • Worked in 5-star establishments
  • Previous experience working as Sous Chef or similar role
  • Excellent knowledge of food safety, storage, health standards and nutrition
  • Ability to deal with remote location logistical chalanges
  • Practice a hands on approach
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding in Microsoft Excel and a high level of computing skills
  • You must hold a valid driving license
  • Ability to maintain vital supplier relationships

WHAT'S THE GIG?
Here’s what you’d do:
Reporting to the Head Chef, the Sustainability and Procurement Chef is responsible for ensuring that items are sustainable. This position will oversee the daily management of the Kitchen and Bar HACCP and allergens programme throughout all F&B outlets on the island, ensuring the correct implementation and full compliance with HACCP standards.

The Sustainability and Procurement Chef plays a key role in the island’s sustainability Program and spearheads the Net Zero Commitment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Purchasing and Procurement: Oversee the food and beverage purchasing function for all Necker entities.
  • Kitchen Duties: Oversee the Kitchen HACCP standards to ensure the completion, collaboration and training is actioned in line with the daily HACCP protocols.
  • Sustainability: Manage programs and initiatives that support the plan for food sustainability.
  • Cost Control and Value for Money: Seek and maximize opportunities for cost savings in the long term and value for money purchases
  • Stores: Manage the operation of the central and kitchen stores, including ordering of stock, receipt and issue of stock, stock rotation, month end reports, stock counts and compilation of monthly reports in order to eliminate loss and waste.
  • Shipping: Manage the food and beverage shipping process including:
  • Team Management: Manage team’s daily performance using clear, fair, honest communication, praise, coaching and discipline.

Second Engineer - Necker Island

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Second Engineer is responsible for running and operation and maintenance of the power and water plants on the island primarily, whilst working within and supporting the engineering team when needed.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE
Qualifications / Experience

  1. Diesel mechanic qualification, marine or plant based, to include diagnostic and service information software training.
  2. Experience in machineries and mobile plants repairs, maintenance and trouble shooting.
  3. Experience in auto electric will be an advantage
  4. Experience in operating and maintaining renewables including wind turbine and solar.
  5. Basic understanding of pool maintenance and treatment systems
  6. At least five years’ experience operation and maintenance of diesel power generation equipment. Either marine based or land based micro-grid operation.
  7. Experience of operating synchronising switchgear and automated distribution systems at a minimum of 480V.
  8. Experience in electrical low voltage electrical works up to 480V
  9. Experience with operation and maintenance of photovoltaic systems and set up
  10. Experience in operation and Maintenance of reverse osmosis water treatment plants at a scale of 10,000 GPD or more.
  11. Experience and knowledge in other engineering trades such as plumbing, carpentry, heating & ventilation and air-conditioning.
  12. Computer literate and understanding of Microsoft applications

To produce an exemplary level of food which reflects the needs and requirements of our guests while maintaining foods costs within budget.

The chef is responsible for preparing meals, menus for events and bar snacks to be consumed in the many venues around the island.

It is essential that the highest level of hygiene, as per the standards of the BVI Health Department and company H&S and HACCP policies, in and outside of the kitchen and the appliances that are used is maintained.
