Things to do
It's been a while since our last update so what better time than half way through 2012 already!
We started off the year with a bang and finally got all the paper work and contracts signed off for the new Literacy centre at the High school. The Literacy will boast a library and computer stations and will open new doors of learning for our high school kids. The building is set to be complete by mid June and this is when we come in with outfitting it with furniture, books and computers. All the computers have arrived and some books.
Every year we also host an event called "Kick-Start". This annual event sees off road enduro riders take to the dirt roads in and around our village. This year the riders will be fundraising to help us furnish the new Literacy Centre! The event takes place on the 7th July, so if you wish to find out more about Kick-Start or the Literacy centre please don't hesitate to email me on email@example.com
Another big project this year is the building of a new school in the village of Ireagh. We have never worked in this village, so we are starting to branch out and with the request from Ulusaba Guests Michael and Dan to help a school this village was first on the list! So after months of getting all the paper work in place, the community on board - a new school has started! By October this year, we hope to have the grand opening of a brand new, fully stocked school with educators in the Early Child Development sector up and running watch this space for exciting updates!
This year so far we have had some great volunteering on the go! Lisa and Julie from the UK came out for a week of hands on Teacher Training at Tizameleni School, We have had the Malandrentiotis family back again for days of painting and fun with the kids and as we speak we have Lydia here helping out with Rhino projects, school topic packs and general hands on things! We have had plenty of guests come through the village too who have got stuck in either playing with some kids, painting, sorting library books, or giving career guidance! The list can go on! For more information on Volunteering on Safari, please contact us or our reservations department.
We greatly appreciate any form of donation (in-kind or cash) for our projects. To assist anyone who would like to make an in-kind donation, we have put together a small "wishlist" of resources which would greatly help. Many of these items cannot be purchased in South Africa or are way out of our budget - so it is a great help to us if these can be brought in by our international guests. You may also wish to add other resources which fit within our topics for our school programmes, so please feel free to do your own research. Please don't hesitate to ask the Pride 'n Purpose team if you have questions (or suggestions) about this wishlist or any of our other projects.
Pre-Schoolers of 2-5 year olds and Foundation phase of 5-8 year olds
We need teaching resources for the following topics which we're preparing toolkits for:
So things like: (related to the topics mentioned above)
P.S - We currently only have a rhino and Monkey puppet so would love any of the other African Animal Puppets
Primary Schools (8-12 year olds)
High Schools (13 school leavers)
The lists are long and seem daunting - but every bit helps and we appreciate all the help we can get!
So to end off this blog I thought I would list some of our 2011 achievements!
We would love to hear from you so please leave a comment or drop us an email and to follow us on more of a day to day basis like us on Facebook www.facebook.com/pridenpurpose
