Bricks and Books and everything else! The Literacy center is on its way! Yippeee- the foundations are in, the walls are up, and the electricity is installed and the roof is coming! This state of the art Literacy center will boast a library and a computer center.
As part of our celebrations for Nelson Mandela's birthday on the 18th July, we have pledged to stock the library with at least 4489 books this is 67 books a day for 67 days in keeping with Mandela's 67 years of service to his community!
So far we are up to about 2500 books and we have 47 days to go! So come on help us reach our goal and help a great cause of improving literacy in South Africa donate some books for the library! Email me today to find out how you can! Book Drive
We are also looking for computer desks, chairs, extension cords, dry erase white boards, filing cabinets, curtains or blinds, mouse pads, shelving, bean bags for a reading corner pretty much everything to fully furnish the center please get in touch with us should you be able to assist with any of the above or have ideas on how we can make the library and computer rooms a fun place to learn!
Breakfast fit for Prince's and Princess's
The July Holidays were a 6 long weeks this year due to the very successful FIFA world Cup that South Africa hosted and lots of our kids spent many a long day at home helping around the house with the normal daily jobs. We decided the kids deserved a break and treated them to a day in Hazyview (our closest town which is about 1h30 drive from Dumphries Village). First stop was Wimpy for burgers and Ice-Creams, then on to the play ground to play on the climbing frames - a great day was had by all!
Cork - Hope in Christ Center
This great little care center in Cork village set up and run by the pastor of the village; is where we took the last of our winter warmer campaign goodies. There are over 30 orphaned kids who live there permanently due to various reasons! They each received new tracksuits, beanies, gloves, socks and undergarments courtesy of many of our guests. Thank you for helping us keeping our kids extra warm this winter!
Cornelius is flying high!
Mark Christophers who was recently here at Pride 'n Purpose volunteering his time, skills, and knowledge thought it would be an opportunity of a life time for one of our local entrepreneurs to be flown to Johannesburg, spend the night in a hotel, have meetings with other budding entrepreneurs, see first hand a large bead warehouse and purchase items he cannot get a hold of out here in rural Mpumalanga. And that is exactly what Cornelius did!
Cornelius came back full of new ideas, enthusiasm and 40kg of beads!!! And for a first time flyer he, was very brave! Cornelius' wares are available for purchase in the Ulusaba Curio Shop which will shortly have an online shopping option so you will be able to support our very talented entrepreneur where ever you are!
Mark a very big thank you goes out to you for giving Cornelius the chance to spread his wings just that much further! You have officially been added to our Angels list!
Bhubezi HCT Launch
Both David and myself went out to join Bhubezi community Health Care Center for the launch of the new HCT program which is country wide. Mpumalanga's target for getting people tested sits at 1 million people think they may have just reached that with the amount of people at the launch. A very good turn out to hear about HIV Counseling and Testing program endorsed by our President Zuma.
