Today (Tuesday 8th March 2016) is International Women's Day. So we asked some of our leading ladies at each Virgin Limited Edition property to tell us a little about themselves, and about their career paths so far...
The Lodge, Verbier
My name is Ashley Crook and I am the General Manager of The Lodge in Verbier, Switzerland. I am originally from the British Virgin Islands and lived there until I was 14 years old. I then spent some time living in freezing cold Wisconsin where my mom is originally from and attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison finishing with a degree in Interior Design & Business. Following University, I worked onNecker Island for two years as the Events Coordinator and organised Holly Branson's Wedding in December 2011.
I currently live in Verbier with my boyfriend and absolutely love the alpine lifestyle that has become the norm over the last 5 years here. I love skiing in the winter and enjoy a good sporting challenge in the summer! I participated in my first Olympic distance Triathlon last July followed by a road cycling event in September. This year I will be running The London Marathon and I have been training hard through the winter in Verbier for the event which takes place on April 24th!
Who is your female role model?
My Mom. I am lucky enough to have a very close family and she has always been able to give the best advice and provide amazing support throughout my life. She definitely lives life to the fullest and most importantly makes sure that she and everyone else around her are always having fun!
What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
Two things that have always stuck in my mind since I was a little girl are:
Treat all others as you wish to be treated.
Accept any challenge that will further fulfill your life.
What advice would you give to young women in the hospitality industry today?
If you want something, go for it! You don't get anywhere in life by waiting for opportunities to come to you, you must seek out opportunities and make the most of them. Don't ever let someone tell you that you cannot do something. When anyone has ever said this to me, it makes me want to step up the challenge with 110% effort and prove them wrong every time! Finally, if you work hard make sure you play hard too!
