From Heaven to Paradise. That's about the sum of where I have moved from and to! As I sit here at my new desk, looking out over the waves crashing against the reefs off the North coast of Necker Island, it all seems like a lifetime ago that I left Verbier and swapped it for the BVI. What a change, and I guess I should start off by summing up the last weeks of winter 2010 - 11. Another fun filled 18 weeks of guests that passed in a seeming blur, so what were the highs, lows and in betweens of this winter? And my past 4 years at The Lodge? Who is taking over from my Blogging at The Lodge (well, you may have already read about that) and at long last, and way over due, the team pic!!
As I was writing my blog back in November, I was talking of another epic season, as we had some great early season snow fall, and some early skiing. However. Unfortunately, the season was not quite as expected, and the snow did not come as predicted! With hindsight, and seeing as the season has passed now, we did not have the best snowfall ever. But I am sure you have read about that in the press. That's not to say we didn't have fun!! I had a few really good days in the odd powder day we had, and discovered some new areas to play in with some of the Swedes from ESSE, the Swedish arm of our Ski School partner, ES. The best bit for the new staff was the amazing sunshine and perfect learning conditions that we had. For Dan, Hayley, Rich, Rachael, Patricia, Raon and even Fabio, this year proved to be the perfect learning year. I had a big grin on my face as the season progressed, and the guys would come back with their latest skiing exploits, and everyone gave it a really good go, and some of them progressed enough to make the Gentianes - La Chaux run one of their favorites. A great start to their first season. And as the summer heats up, its bikes and climbing gear to the front, skis to the back, as we start another summer season.
Its shaping up to be a scorcher of a summer at The Lodge, with some fun family celebrations and plenty of hotel style weeks for you to take advantage of, but I am going to hand over to Rachael to keep you up to speed on that, as all I can do is reflect on the summers, from long lazy walks on the Bisse, to hurling your self down the downhill tracks, all bring a smile to my face.
So, thats it. Thats all. 4 years. Hannah, Paul, James, Gerwin, Will, Morgan, Fabio, Loic, Tom, Christo, Dan, Patricia, Raon, Sara, Maria, Carla, Hannah, Dani, Georgia, Kat, Emma, Daisy, Sally, Adam, Camilla, Naomi, Rachael, Hayley, Rich, oh, and BamBam & Harry. So many memories that you have all been a massive part of, and also, you, reading this, as guests, friends, family or just for fun, for making it all so special. Whether it was awesome fresh snow on the first lift, late night hot tub parties or rustling up midnight snacks, its all been amazing!
So as I sign off this time, you need to look at flights to get over here now, and in the next few days, will be writing my new blog, from my new desk, on Necker.
I didn't forget by the way, here, at long last is the picture I have been promising from way back in December..... I give to you the Lodge crew of 2010 - 2011:
