Summer in the Swiss Alps: Foodie favourites

Summer in the Swiss Alps is bursting with stunning woodland scenery, bustling local villages, thriving mountain wildlife and amazing outdoor activities from June - September, but most of all it is a great time for foodies too!

Our beautiful Verbier chalet, The Lodge, is perfectly positioned for Swiss Alps summer holidays inviting those who want to sample the best seasonal Swiss delights and wholesome local produce that is available during this time of the year.

Our passionate chefs spend some of their time outside the kitchen foraging for local ingredients to add even more authenticity to the plate; whether it be freshly picked wild strawberries or a sprig of elderflower picked on the way to work!

You are guaranteed not just a magical alpine Summer escape but an unforgetable culinary experience as well including cooking lessons, wine tasting and cheese making.

To give you a taster, here's what you can expect during a stay with us.

1. Picnics

Mountain picnics are an absolute treat during the Summer and our team can arrange a delicious spread of picnic favourites from quiches to salads with a variety of drinks for you to enjoy while you are taking in the spectacular views and sounds of the Swiss Alps.

2. BBQs

Dine al fresco whilst enjoying the fresh mountain air on the terrace at The Lodge which features a lively BBQ and bar area.

3. Fondue

Fondue is one of the most popular dishes of Switzerland and at our luxury Verbier chalet you can experience this made with some of the best local cheeses from the cows grazing nearby.

4. Cheese tastings

We source freshly whipped goat’s cheese from cheesemakers Roger and Marc Dubosson at their family-run Laiterie de Verbier – a five-minute drive from The Lodge in Verbier Village. Roger and Mark also make the famous Raclette cheese from the Valais region.

5. Salads

Fresh salads are a regular on every menu and 50% of the herbs used in our dishes including the fresh salads are sourced from our very own herb garden.

6. Freshly picked ingredients

Apricots, blueberries, strawberries, elderflower and peaches are in abundance in Verbier during the Summer months. These are hand-picked by our chefs straight from the mountain before being transformed into show-stopping plates.

7. Homemade cookies and pancakes

Our team love making scrumptious homemade Swiss cookies, cakes and pancakes and you will often find these served at breakfast or at tea time.

8. Wines

Pair the picture-perfect views with some palette-perfect wine with our extensive selection, both local and international. 95% of the wine produced in Switzerland is not exported, so we recommend you try some during your next stay.
