Necker Island: Play with a purpose in the BVIs #GameofThrows

We’re supporting the youth of Virgin Gorda in a new kind of way…

With the community of still rebuilding their lives following the hurricane’s the youth of Virgin Gorda have few resources for their after-school development.

That’s where PLAE comes in! Its founder, Ryan Ringholz, attended a Race4Good event on Necker Island recently, hosted by frontline humanitarian Linda Cruse.

The event was an eye-opening opportunity to learn how the local community has been left feeling since the hurricanes, with very few safe areas for kids to play and have fun. Following the event Ryan and Linda reconnected and began discussions with Virgin Unite to tackle this social challenge. It was clear that the community were passionate about basketball and through this GAME OF THROWS was born!

The #GameOfThrows campaign is simple…

Step 1: Record yourself shooting a hoop (of some description).
Step 2: Upload it to social media with the #GameOfThrows and tag @goplae

Be as creative as you like with your slam dunks too, you could just toss a basketball into a net, or you could:

  • Land a tea bag in your mug for your morning brew
  • Crumple up paper and shoot it into a recycling bin outside your office
  • Ball up your socks and throw them into the washer (you’re welcome, parents)
  • Toss an olive into a martini glass during your next happy hour (sorry, bartenders)

For every video uploaded in April PLAE will donate $1 to Virgin Unite to directly support the hurricane recovery efforts.

100% of funds raised from the #GameOfThrows campaign will directly support Virgin Unite’s projects which focuses on supporting entrepreneurs, environmental conservation and enriching communities in the BVI.

“Through #GameOfThrows, we aim to help lift Virgin Gorda out of the devastation of Hurricane Irma by raising funds to rebuild spaces for safety, structure, fun, and creativity. But more than that, we hope to help rebuild the spirit if the kids on the island. Through social media, we’ll be able to connect the kids of Virgin Gorda with a global community who is cheering for them from around the world. They’ll be playing along, too! Watch PLAE’s social channels for videos and interviews with the kids all month long.” said Ringholz.

So, get ready to take your best shot and join in the #GameofThrows fun for a good cause!
