As the saying goes, there are three things that matter in property: location, location, location. Our position is pretty perfect with panoramic views over the town of Franschhoek so it never fails to meet all three criteria. But it's not just the views that draw in the visitors, as the area's reputation for excellent food and wine is well justified.
They've even solved that perennial problem when visiting wine regions: someone always needs to stay sober to drive between vineyards. Luckily the Franschhoek wine tram literally rides to the rescue, linking up 12 properties - including Mont Rochelle of course - with regular departures throughout the day. The track was first laid down in 1904 to transport produce to market and was in continuous use until the 1990s when traffic shifted entirely to the roads. A restoration effort saw the tram relaunched in 2012, and although some of the gaps are now supplemented by a bus, it's a quirky and fun way to get to know the area and some of its history at the same time.
Our team can point you in the right direction for the wine tram, but of course, if you just want to relax, start with a complimentary wine tasting that's included as part of your stay.
