2011 finished with a bang for our teams across the globe as we waved goodbye to another action packed year!
We celebrated two landmark birthdays at The Roof Gardens: 30 yearssince Virgin took over the Clubhouse and gardens and 10 years since Babylon Restaurant opened.
Our two marathon runners from the London office Rebekah and Craig raised over £20,000 for charity when they ran in the 2011 London Marathon, and our property General Managers showed their support by helping to raise over £2,000 in a timed treadmill challenge!
Our ski chalet The Lodge turned 5! And we welcomed a brand new summer Lodge duck to our growing duck collection. Check out The Lodge facebook page for some photos. Click here.
At Ulusaba we launched two new experiences for our guests: Volunteer Safaris with Pride 'n Purpose and Photographic Safaris, aimed at amateur photographers who want to get the most out of their bush safari.
We gave our guests a new way to explore Kasbah Tamadot before they arrive with our interactive online map. Check out our online map here.
Richard Branson really got the blogging bug this year and has also been active on Facebook and on Twitter. He has been talking a lot about the different animals that can be found on Necker Island as well as some new arrivals in 2011.
The Roof Gardens team highlighted their environmental and sustainable initiatives with a new video that shows just how the team makes it work. Watch the video .
Revamped homepages for our websites were launched in August for all the Virgin Limited Edition properties showcasing offers and news.
The team at Ulusaba kept busy with Sam our Ranger and Mel our spa therapist riding over 330km across the Damaraland desert in Namibia to raise money. Our team also started a "Save the Rhino" campaign to protect rhinos against poaching in South Africa.
Sadly in August we saw one of our toughest challenges yet with a fire on Necker Island destroying the Great House. Our relief that no-one staying in the building was hurt was only tempered once we realized the enormity of what we lost. Thanks to overwhelming support the team carried on and the island is back in business and a new Great House will soon be under construction! We're already looking forward to welcoming our guests for 2012.
A little closer to home our London office got a makeover!
The year finished with a new video highlighting the Virgin Limited Edition collection! Watch the video on our YouTube channel .
After a big year all round one of Richard Branson's favourite quotes by John Lennon, "Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans", has never seemed so apt.
Around the globe we thank everyone for all their support in 2011 and wish you all the very best for 2012!
