The Experience
A visit to the Silver Bank doesn't just mean you get to watch from the deck of Necker Belle. You'll also have the opportunity to get into the water, known as a soft in-water encounter, to get even closer to these magnificent creatures. The contact is passive floating in snorkelling gear allowing the whales to develop an interest and approach as they feel comfortable. Every charter will be accompanied by humpback whale expert Tom Conlin of Aquatic Adventures, who has over 20 years of experience in the Silver Bank.
You'll also learn about the different whale behaviours including breaching, when they jump out of the water, spy hopping, when the whale raises its head from the water to survey the area, fin slapping, lob tailing and much more. The Silver Bank is an annual breeding ground for the whales as they migrate south to warmer waters, and is now a protected sanctuary with strict limits on the number of sailing vessels in the area.
