Pride ‘n Purpose has got stuck into 2009 with building a better future for 6 kids of Dumphries Village. The plight of these kids was brought to our attention by the community who were concerned for their well being as the only roof over their head was one small round house.
When their mother passed away last year, she had already started to build a 3 roomed house – yet was unable to complete this. And this is when we stepped in!
The house is now being completed by one of the kids – Roman who is 19 years old. The bricks are also being made on site by 2 unemployed youths of the same village.
Paul Duffy, Pride ‘n Purpose’s long term volunteer, has been managing the building site, as back home, he is in the construction business himself. So Paul has certainly come in handy as these kids have also been learning some new skills they will be able to use in everyday life once the house is complete.
The roof is almost complete, and all that needs to be done now is the installation of the windows and doors. We have also been donated over 100L of paint from one of Ulusaba’s building suppliers – Save Build in Hazyview, so the house will not only be functional but attractive too.
We have had such a great response from guests about the plight of these kids and this has allowed us to complete the house and to support them for many more years to come.
Watch this space for updates, and please feel free to comment as we would love to hear from you!
