There are so many features that we are proud of in the Gardens, but one of the teams favourites has to be the living wall. Pilar and the Gardening team lovingly care for the wall which now has almost 300 plants – with everything from Vietnamese Coriander to Lemon Verbena grown. It’s no surprise that the feature is particularly popular with our team of Chefs!
When Nigel Dunnett invited Pilar to lend a helping hand at his ‘Greening Grey Britain Garden’ at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, she was delighted to be involved. The garden draws on Nigel’s former work at The Barbican, giving gardeners exciting sustainable design ideas that they can take away with them. We know all too well the amazing role that Gardens can play in urban environments so were more than happy to help out!
Pilar joined Nigel and his team to help install a living wall as a feature in the Garden. Based on our original wall in the Gardens, the wall is jam packed with beautiful plants and herbs and has already proven a popular talking point with visitors to the Flower Show.
You can read more about the ‘Greening Grey Britain Garden’ on the RHS Chelsea website. If you want to come and check out The Roof Gardens living wall for yourself, take a look at our Gardening Opening Times to see when the Gardens are next open to visitors.
