This Monday in Babylon we held one of our favourite events in our Christmas calendar, the annual tree lighting ceremony with Starlight Children’s Foundation.
The baubles had been expertly hung, the champagne was poured and festive magic was in the air. There was only one final touch needed to kick off our Christmas season – a guest of honour to help us light up the tree!
This year we were delighted to welcome five year old Willow, who joined us for the evening with her parents Amanda and Gregory. After meeting the resident flamingos and exploring the Gardens, Willow headed upstairs to Babylon to join our General Manager, Sam, and hang her magical star on the Christmas tree to light up the room!
When she was just one, little Willow was diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer and has been undergoing treatment ever since. She’s a bright and bubbly child who never lets her illness get her down; she managed to remain positive and calm during the many hospital trips and has never complained once.
During her evening in Babylon, Willow told us all about her Starlight wish to make special memories with her family and visit Disney World in Florida. Throughout December, Babylon will be inviting diners to add a donation to their bill and hang a Starlight star on our tree. The donations that we receive over the season will help to grant Willow’s once-in-a-lifetime wish, as well as the wishes of other children that Starlight supports.
The Roof Gardens team have supported Starlight through a range of initiatives over the last five years, helping to grant wishes for seriously and terminally ill children. Starlight works to help restore the magic of childhood, giving the whole family happy memories to share and providing entertainment and distraction in and out of hospitals and hospices.
